Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is a collective of Aboriginal Artists and Arts Administrators from the regional art sector. Each individual brings their own skills and aspirations to the Board with an overarching commitment to servicing Aboriginal Artists and communities in regional New South Wales.

  • Aleshia Lonsdale

    Aleshia is a Mudgee based Aboriginal Artist who began as primarily a painter and weaver and has since expanded her practice to incorporate sculptural and installation work.

    Inspiration for her work is drawn from issues facing Aboriginal people including that of Aboriginality and Identity.

    Using everyday objects and materials Aleshia creates works that reflect the cultural values and traditions of her people and works which challenge the audience and put the spotlight on contemporary issues of today.

  • Jamie-Lea Trindall

    Jamie-Lea is from Coonamble and is the Executive Director of Outback Arts, starting the role in November 2009.

    Raised in Coonamble, after finishing school Jamie-Lea spent five years in Sydney where she graduated from the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW with a Bachelor of Art Education and a major in Sculpture/Photography.

  • Lorrayne Fishenden

    Lorrayne is an Gomeroi Yinaar who is an experienced Arts Project Manager that has developed a reputation for delivering outcomes for her community.

    Lorrayne has a strong history of working in community to establish their needs and wants then being able to convert this into successful outcomes, in the last few years she has had a strong focus on recording traditional stories in a contemporary medium, some of her key works including “Rivers to Ridges” and “In Our Own Words”.

  • Kylie Caldwell

    Bundjalung artist Kylie Caldwell is an ardent weaver and fibre artist, interested in reviving and pursuing traditional cultural practices that her ancestors have used over thousands of years, rediscovering these ancient Bundjalung crafts and threading them into the modern world. Caldwell seeks to soak up the knowledge and wisdom from Bundjalung Jargoon (country), utilising varies modes to deepen and expand her own cultural creative expression and knowledge.

    Caldwell is committed to growing traditional weaving through both the ancient form and contemporary artistry to represent an enduring Bundjalung identity.

From humble beginnings in 2019, the Aboriginal Regional Arts Alliance (NSW) Aboriginal Corporation continues to grow from strength to strength and with continued growth and opportunities for our Regional and Remote Aboriginal Artists, Arts Workers and Communities we are seeking to grow our Board of Directors in 2022.  

The Board of Directors are appointed for a term of 1 year, and are all voluntary positions. 

The role of the Board of Directors is to oversee the running and strategic direction of the corporation to support our vision for Regional NSW to be identified and respected for its rich Aboriginal cultural landscapes, traditions and practices. 

The Board of Directors meet bi-monthly (or more often if required) via Zoom, and aim to have at least 1 face to face meeting per year.

To be eligible you must:

  • at least 18 years old.  

  • an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. 

  • a regional artist, arts administrator or identified by the Board as connected to regional arts in NSW. 

  • be based in Regional NSW.

A person is not eligible to become a director if the person: 

  • has been disqualified from managing corporations.
